2017 T-Ball Welcome!

Updated Friday March 31, 2017 by John Hand.

Hello and Welcome to Nisky Baseball!

For those that played last year, thanks for doing so.  For those that are new, welcome!

For some background, Nisky Baseball has approximately 50 teams from ages 4 through 15.  We are around 500 kids in total with another 150 registered volunteers. We participate in the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League.  Similar to Little League but different entities.  We've had success at various levels of competitive play over the years, and in 2015, NBL alum Garrett Whitley was drafted by the Tampa Rays in the first round of the MLB draft.

Nisky Baseball is a volunteer organization, and enjoys a tremendous relationship with the town.  It however is not funded by the town and is entirely self funded.  Your registration costs go to offset field maintenance, lawn mowing, uniforms, equipment, insurance, SiPlay fees, and so on.

Over the next few weeks you'll get your team assignment, and we ask you to attend Field Day April 8 where we will get the fields equipped and ready for the season.

Just about every Friday, you'll get League emails with news and information.  Some of which pertains to T-Ball, some of which will not - but may have interest to you now or in the future.

This year we are going to host a T-ball clinic.  Its going to be this Saturday 11am-12:15pm at the Armory in downtown Schenectady.  (125 Washington Ave 12305 by SCCC.) It has over 26,000 square feet of astro-turfed space.  Its a great wide open place to learn and do some baseball basics!  For our older players we run tryouts and do winter workouts there.  Nisky Travel Soccer also uses for soccer practice.

We haven't done this age group clinic before and were overwhelmed by the response that registered on line for free.  We are going to keep the event free, and encourage all to attend even if you hadn't registered.

In Nisky we are afforded a tremendous depth of talented individuals that volunteer their time for baseball.  We also appreciate this years volunteers that signed up to manage a t-ball team.  Please thank your coaches as the season starts up!

For the clinic,

Coach Dave Fields, a former standout collegiate pitcher at Siena College and semi-pro baseball player will lead it.  Dave is also a VP on the Board of our league.  Ryan Fiorito, also is on our Board and is a General Manager of our divisions played on the fields at 2550 River Road.  He is your contact for any issues or questions as the season progresses.  Ryan won't be in town this weekend, as he is an airline pilot and is on assignment.  We'll also have others at the clinic to assist.

At the clinic, we'll introduce some basic baseball skills including throwing, catching, fielding grounders, running the bases, and hitting a ball, and review with all the T-Ball Coaches some basics of coaching this level.

For this weekend, your player should wear sneakers and bring his or her glove, and helmet if you already have one.  We use softer type balls for t-ball but still require wearing helmets. Don't forget a water bottle and a snack packed away always goes a long way!

Feel free to contact us anytime by emailing this address, Ryan ryan_fiorito@yahoo.com or any Board member listed on our web page, and we'll do our best to get back to you quickly.

Thanks again for signing up and welcome to Nisky Baseball!
